Artist's Statement Client Testimonials

I have always made art, not knowing where it would lead me but never questioning its importance. Surrounded by a family of life-long artists, I was encouraged and inspired to make art from a young age.

About 5 years ago, I abandoned my planful ways and began to make art guided by intuition and spontaneity. Since then, my art has moved to an abstract style in which I rarely use a paintbrush and the focus of my life has become painting. I work without expectations or a decided direction. I make my mistakes the future of my design, trusting that there is a reason for each decision that I come to. I do not confine myself to a projected vision of the finished piece and I place great confidence in my intuitive sensitivity. I also see great importance in making things from scratch. I prefer to build all of my stretchers and frames in order to create a truly original and handmade piece.

The most prominent theme in my work is the push and pull of the natural and the artificial or the urban and the rural. This theme has grown stronger since moving to NYC and the constant maintenance of seeking and redefining balance has become very evident both in my surroundings and within myself.

I have an unending curiosity to explore people and places in this world. At 24, I have lived in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Maryland, New Mexico, Tokyo and New York City. Each move has expanded my development as an artist and the works I've produced are most easily categorized by the location in which they were created. I enjoy the stylistic hodge-podge I have developed and I hope that it broadens the audience who will benefit from and relate to my creations.

"Out beyond ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing
There is a field-
I'll meet you there
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world becomes too full to talk about
thoughts, ideas, even the phrase each other doesn't make any sense"
